Hello again

I was wondering if anybody would know if the Mono Forks would fit a Twin shock? The Fork Stantions on my bike are shot so looking at my options, I have had quotes of

Go to the Yamaha parts list (You do realize that all Yamaha parts are shown by number/year/model, with a blow up diagram). Check DT's , TT's , MX's of the year you have (plus or minus a couple of years). The DT's share quite a few parts and are much more available.

My bet is that something else will fit.

Gday, the parts cross reference I have only shows TY 250 T/S as using these forks. Go the rechrome, it works well and good TY forks are pretty much impossible to find. I have 3 sets in my shed that are currently useless!

You need to have the yokes machined to take the forks, and if you use the forks you need a mono wheel. A common mod on Majesty Yams. If you were happy with your forks when they were good then re chroming would be cheaper than the mono route, unless of course you already have the mono parts in stock.

PS there are mods that can be done to twinshock forks that improve them, I am not up to speed on them, Woody is your man for that.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

If I went down the Mono forks route and used the disk etc would this give me problems in the twin shock class?

I am still getting quotes for the rechroming and they all seem to be around the same price, I am thinking of going down this route now as I did not know that I had to use the mono wheel.

I have never ridden the bikes before so I cannot comment on the effectiveness of the shocks but I am in the process of rebuilding them so may be I should put them to standard spec and ride the bikes before playing around with them

Flymo,

Here is the cost of new inner tubes (which I would assume is the problem).

Product Name: Yamaha TUBE,INNER 1, Product ID: 434-23124-00-00, Price: $81.09.

If they are pitted or rusted , and not bent, there is always the apoxy route. Several friends have used it with good success.

Again Thanks for the advice

I am on a bit of a budget so but I think I might go down the rechroming route as if I need the wheel etc to use the mono forks the bill will get out of hand, I might see how much replacement tubes are from Yamaha UK but I am sure it will end up cheaper to have them rechromed.

I did look at going down the Epoxy route but I think I will just be delaying the rechroming and both sets of forks are really in a poor order, they are all straight but are covered in pits and rust, I cannot ride for a few months as I am having some ops on my back so I whilst I have the time I might as well do things properly.

One other question that I am sure that everyone is feed up with answering but what colour should a ty250B be? Currently both frames are fire engine red but one looks like it was silver at one point? I am not going to restore to a concours standard I am going to restore the bikes to ride but at the same time I would like to have things looking right.

Again thank you for all the advice.

Regards

Flymo
