oakworth jon
Hi, I have just replaced the inner clutch casing on an '05 125 due to coolant corrosion. I also fitted new bearings and oil seal to the impeller shaft. After flushing and plenty of oil changes I am still getting coolant into the oil and suspect I may not have fitted the oil seal correctly (or is there another cause?) Are there any tips or special tools required to fit this correctly Thanks, Jon.
stork955
Gday, did you fit the seal in the correct direction? i.e. with the open side towards the coolant? Cheers, Stork
oakworth jon
Yes...the open side (retaining spring) is facing the pump side. I have now replaced the seal again in case the first was damaged. After a couple more oil changes the oil still turns immediately 'white' on running the engine? pa.
You may find the shaft has worn. They are not very expensive. The part number is 10.27740.0.00 You can find an extensive list of Beta parts diagrams here. http://www.trialsport.com.au/beta/documents.htm
betarev3
Hi - are you sure it is water contamination? My gearbox oil goes 'white' after starting the engine, but this is due to agitation of the oil and not water contamination..... If it is water, then inspect the water pump shaft for any signs of scoring on the point where the seal runs, and if there is, it is sometimes possible to fit the seal in the housing a little further out (i.e. don't knock it in so far) to allow the sealing face to run on a different part of the shaft. Good luck
oakworth jon
Sorted....after I refitted the second seal and did 3 oil changes it finally runs clear. Thanks for the advice.
