(prefer oil in frame) i would like to bild something like Martin Wilmore's bsa (not the super special one that looks like a sherco) advise on the engine is very welcome to i would like it to be powerful, smooth and high reving (like my sherco) and the clutch must be good does anyone have email adress of M. charlie prescott Posted May 25, 2009 Report Share Posted May 25, 2009 Hi Guy's Hi Bob, Sounds like you need a Faber frame if you can get the boys at Faber to come up with the goods, There new frame is Scottish Pre 65 compliant now we are told, and still seems like the cheapest option. and builds into a good bike without a lot of trouble. Engine wise ,a good starting point is a B40 GB engine as this has most of the right bits. Martin is riding his Ariel with great confidence at the moment and getting good results. daved444 Posted May 25, 2009 Report Share Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) Hi Bob We recently finished a C15, initially in a modified B40 frame with a central oil tank and in its second guise we built it into a Faber frame - see the pics below. The Faber frame works well - mine is an earlier one without the lower frame rails but has the modified shorter swinging arm. I found the guys at Faber pretty poor to deal with to be honest - it seemed like they really dont want to be in business the way that they handle their potential customers. In the end I found a guy that had an earlier frame and hadn't got round to using it so a deal was done. It handles pretty well (only rode it for the 1st time on Sunday) - not that different from the original with a few frame mods to be honest but quite a bit lighter. I will be selling the original frame with oil tank, bash plate and some other bits and bobs but there are a number of people making good frames out there. I certainly know of Nigel Randal in the Midlands and Roger heap up near Preston who both make competitive frames for the BSA engine if you cant sort out anything through Faber - PM me and I will let you have contact numbers for either of them if you want. Good luck with it - I am really happy with how mine has turned out and I have done a trick Cub, Sprite and Ariel in the last few years - this is certainly up there with them. bobtlr Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Share Posted May 25, 2009 hey tnx for the fast reply those bikes are very nice, i visited your blog and was planned to copy your ariel (verry nice bike to) but they are just to big and heavy for my riding style (modern rider) and difficult to find the right parts at a decent price. 250 cc wil not do it i' spoke to Martin in aywaile (belgium) and he told me his bsa's are nearly 410 cc i need more power so i can take big steps (modern trial also) and also good for after event hillclimb. the new faber frame is that the otter mk3 ? regards bob Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ducman Posted May 26, 2009 Report Share Posted May 26, 2009 Hi Bob, have a word with Hans van Marvijk from Arnhem,his B40 frames are very good.(Eddy Zels frame is a van Marvijk).I really can recomend the frames,my Matchless oil in Frame is also a van Marvijk and i'am very pleased with it.
