Well done and very wise to pick a picture with little spoke work to do

I find the best images that benefit from this are ones which have the item you want to pop close to the lens, and the background showing some depth. Like a distant crowd for instance. Ian Cross produced this awesome effort of Dabill at Carlilse which I think best shows what I mean.

Another thing to try is to layer the background into a few layers where there is a defined distance, and then apply a stepped gentle blur to each layer to give a sensation of depth.

p.s. This photo may already be on here somehwere so apologies if you have seen this before

Patience... patience? That took me a good four hours  Just could not get those bits in the background with the selection tool, kept wanting to select his helmet too..

Not a freind as such, just local rider Gary Macdonald, with a slightly strange look on his face?

Will mess around with the intensities of dark and light patches later if I get time and see if you notice an improvement..

Cheers,

Jamie

Here is one i have just done, I have used the polygonal lasso tool took me about 20mins,

I believe there are many ways for colour popping but i find lasso best!

P.S does anyone get the same propb as me using polygonal lasso, when your half way through selecting its snaps and joins start to finish with no warning? i have found a way around it but its really annoying

It joins up because you have clicked your mouse too fast when moving from one point to the next

A double click action joins start to finish, take your time with the clicks and it won't happen.

I find the most effective use of selective colour is with wildlife shots

I have done some research on the snapping, it seems to be a fault in the program, After a random time it will snap with no warning even if you just leave it for a while without clicking,
