Trials Motor Vs. Enduro Motor?

Just as an example, how silmilar are the TXT250 and the EC250?

I would like an enduro bike that runs like a trials bike. Should I swap the motors or would I be able to just modify the enduro motor? Can any old MXer be made to run like a trials bike? Has this ever been done?

Thanks!

The TXT and EC use two totally different motors.

Short answer: yes. Longer answer: it would take so much work that it wouldn't be worth it. For example, the gearbox ratios are matched to the power output of the EC motor. Change the motor characteristics too much and you'd need to regear the bike.

A few years ago I saw a pic of a bike Cyril du Pres (sp?) was using in extreme enduros and it had a trials exhaust, not an expansion chamber.

*edit* A good tuner should be able to soften the power for you (even an extra base gasket will help) but to get the power the same as a trials bike isn't worth it (IMO).

There was a 321 gas gas motor fitted into a late 80s rm125 frame running around here a few years ago, the owner said there wasn't a small enough back sprocket available to get top speed high enough for the open sections of trail but that it was fairly competitive anyway.

Another hybrid around here is a 280 gas gas motor in a late model cr125 frame, takes more than a casual glance to realise it's not factory built. Owner built it to ride the sort of stuff trials bikes love & enduro bikes die trying to do so suspension is set softer than mx & top speed is not an issue, have seen what it'll do on a trials bike riding weekend & reckon it meets his expectations fully
