voleurz
my bike (02 sherco 290) makes strange clannging rattle type sounds when leaning over to left while running has this happened to anyone before? I just dropped it off at the bike shop to get the carb adjusted and a general look over I mentioned it to him as well and am wondering what you guys think? Could it be the disc brake clannging about? I don't know, and at this point can't check anything. happy trails.
copemech
That could easily be it! Very normal, yet hard to narrow dorn without hearing, just a metallic rattle that should go away if you clamped the brake!
voleurz
well I'm not sure at this point. the motor seems to run fine, supposedly it has a brand new bottom end. I didn't really think much of the guy I got the bike from though... I will see what happens when the mech is done with it, I was just wondering if someones had something similar... voleurz
maybe it's even as simple as all the oil sloshing to the one side and thus making more noise..

I do seem to recall there was a slight issue with a few kickstart idler gears that were maybe a tad loose on the shaft and could rattle a bit if leaned to the right! Cannot recall the date range, 01-03 somewhere. Just sounds like a bit of gear type noies or chatter really. Doubt that would be you.
ishy
Clutch cover has a ding in it, when you lean it over it is just enough for the clutch hub to rub against it, easy cure, take it off and look for the ding, put the cover on a folded cloth and give it a tap with a hammer from the inside. Would that not be with leaning to right as well? Or when applying clutch?
voleurz
So it is only making a weird noise when leaning to the left. not to the right. the mechanic sheet says it is internal. I don't think I'm going to worry about it much since it runs fine and everything when or if it blows I guess It will either get a new motor or a whole new bike depending on how bad it is. edit: turns out I dont have 5th gear. or 4th.. one of the 2 tall ones They go 123 and then its kinda a dramatic jump to 4th gear. and click up again and theres nothin there. so that would explain the funny noise when leaning to the left. not like I need to go faster than 4th anyways. Thanks for the help guys. Edited August 27, 2009 by voleurz
