lian
Lately i found weird noise from left side of bike wile running 4th and 5th gear. Noise is getting faster as i giving more throttle (frequency is about 3 times per 2 sec on 30 km/h. As faster speed, more frequently rattle), but when i shut throttle it disappears (i'm running on momentum), so it's not chain, wheels etc. At N and when clutching while 4/5th engine works fine too, w/o knocking. Rattle is metallic sound, like knocking 2 screwdrivers about each other. What it could be? Sherco 2.9 2004. Thanks! trialsnutterman
As cope says put a new split link in or better still buy a new chain as it will probably be on it's last legs if it needs a new link.
lian
Hmm, noise coming from engine as i can hear moving on speed, but not from lower side or backside of bike. I started bike standing on stand and turn 5th gear, giving gas, and heard no rattle. If it could be chain link, noise will be all the time in any gear.. The chain can do it, must be under load at speed, which increases load!
tony27
I'm beginning to wonder if its not chain at all & maybe something like pinking/pinging as you say it only happens under load in the higher gears & pulling the clutch in which unloads motor gets rid of it. Have you changed the type of fuel you're using lately?
copemech
Would have said same, yet his frequency doen't neccessarily meet the mark.
tony27
What condition is your chain guide plate(plastic piece on top of swingarm) because sooner or later your chain starts to hit the mounting screws, not convinced thats the reason though
tony27
Another remote possibity is you got 1 loose sprocket bolt, hope not as that'll eat a groove into swingarm
trialsnutterman
It will be the split link it only happens under load as that is when the link is stretched out causing it to misalign with the front sprocket and cause a click noise. lian
Thanks for everyone. It was missed chain lock and for that reason split link don't hold good both chain's sides. Now got to find lock.
