Chasis Number Interpretation

Hi all

I've just got myself another trials bike after being away for a few years. The bike i bought was sold to me as an 04 250 sherco im not entirely convined now because it says 03 series on the mudguard i know plastics can be replced but i just want to be more sure of what i've bought. can anyone tell me if you can tell the year of manufacture and enigine size from the chasis number.

Yes there is some code to this off the VIN, last eight digits will give you year it was built, such as 4A011230, yet if your bike was built late in the '03 year, it may carry a 3 in the first position, then a late production number.

I'll just check with a main dealer they surely would be able to help. But from your description it does look like an 03. the first couple of digits say 125 does that mean its 125? if it does im :D:D

My 2.9 says "VNBS129TR" expect this means Sherco 2.9 trials.

If yours says VNBS125TR, then maybe it is or was a 125, the motor numbers, top rear behind the output gear should verify. Mine is SH290*****!
