Death Of Mo Bird

Hi all,

I thought I'd post on here as some of you know me and others may have know my Dad (Mo Bird) through his observing.

Dad Died September 24th. He had suffered with heart problem for a number of years and it was this that finally gave up.

Dad used to ride himself in the 60's achiving moderate success at club level though he is probably better know for his observing. He was a lifelong fan of the Scottish 6 Day and Pre 65 Trials and made the trip almost every year since the late 60's to watch and Observe. He was well known in the South Midland centre (and Nationwide for that matter) for his strict observing and would observe to the letter of the law which I myself fell foul of on many occasions !!

He also observed many World Trials and famously once (rightly so) gave Christopher Camozzi a 5 at Hawkstone park only to be verbally and physically abused be the Frenchman much to the anger and disgust of the large crowd. Camozzi protested the 5 and after the ACU dismissed the protest he went to the FIM who reduced the score. This caused a national outburst of letters to the Press all supporting the observors descision. I found all the paper cuttings about this at Dad's house - I think he enjoyed the attention!

Thanks to those who know me and have passed on thier condolences already.

Sorry to hear of your sad loss Steve. Did he use to come up here with an old Escort style van with a weird sort of boat like camper part to it?

Big John

I think you have the right person John. He had a Peugot 305 van which he bought new and chopped into a pick up truck on the same day. Later on he then built some hideous 'truckman' top for the rear and used to carry a massive Canadian style canoe on the roof!!

In later years he had a Blue Transit Van.

Both vehicles are still at his house!

He used to ride a TY250 out to the sections to observe, the year I went to Scotland when I worked for Martin Crosswaite he had me changing the clutch in the car park.

Yeah that's him, he also wore a strange Davy Crockett type hat as well! ^_^
