Hi all,

Does anyone know the sizes of the bearings required in the suspension linkage?...in particular the four that are the same..(2 in each silver bit).

I THINK they are 15/16/21??..or something like that. These are the only ones that appear to be worn on mine. There are 2 oil seals either side of each bearing too...(totalling 8 oil seals). THese appear to be 15/21/2......I've been told that its pretty hard to get hold of 2mm oil seals.

Anyway, I guess I should just order it all from a bike shop...(less hassle and sure to be the correct size etc). Just curious to know if any of you have tried sourcing the bits yourselves.

Thanks in advance for any replies/ideas

I have one bearing lying around on my desktop. The inscrpion says "HN 1516". A quick Google gives me this SKF bearing:

http://www.skf.com/skf/productcatalogue/Fo...rodid=146121005

Seems that you are on track of something...

Ohh... I almost forgot... There are six bearings. There is two in the swing arm too..

Thanks..

I know its a bit stupid maybe, but I was only thinking of changing these 4 at the moment. Didnt really want to knock them out yet either untill I can be sure of getting the oil seals...dont reckon I cant get the oil seals out undamaged.

Thanks tho...looks like you're correct with that bearing number!

You're doing the right thing trying to source the correct bearings and separate seals Stu', don't be tempted to buy the bearings with 'built in' seals that some bike shops sell. The needles are narrower and they wear out much faster. I've also found that the bushings that fit inside the needle cages can be a little undersize, which doesn't help matters. Cheers, Dave

Thanks Lowbrow, and RichT

Yes, I agree with all that, although I've found the bearings, or at least the main 4 for about 3.50 each....but the same place doesnt have the oil seals, so I might well be going with your idea RichT. Where can you get the complete lot inc. bushes for 55 quid tho!!!?..I've heard its more like 90 quid for the whole lot.

If you could let me know where, Id be very happy!

One of my bushs' in particular seems to be worn, and Id agree with you again lowbrow, that they seem to be a little too undersized anyway, even before they wear.

Are you doing the Central Wales trial on Sunday lowbrow??..looks like its gonna be horribly wet, but I really fancy getting out on the bike. Might be last time for a while, since its getting near to silly season for me.

Hi StuEssenhigh,

Don't want to teach you to suck eggs,But after spending all that money on the bearings, It's worth useing some good high pressure waterproof grease,

Such as kent industries Blue grease,(automotiv)

Or grease usued on marine outboard motor pivots.

Those bearing ain't cheap

Thanks jeffers..no prob.

Lowbrow...yes, it is a good venue, I went there two years ago. Well worth the travel, except its gonna be wet so bring yer bin liners!

If they tell you its at a farm near Norton..dont go to Norton..go to Knighton and follow the signs from there...its easier and closer.

Think the farms address is Norton, but its much closer to Knighton.

hope to see you there.

RichT...any more news on where you got those full bearing kits for 55 quid??..would love to know.

I've just put mine back together with the old bearings and lots of grease so I can ride this weekend. Will try to sort it asap tho!

hi stu, the full set for 55 quid is for the dog bones/linkage but not the swing arm 'top hat' ones. If you get these itll be more like 80 / 90 quid. Have also been told that the main lower shock bearing can wear very quickly on the gassers so might be worth checking. Think that one is about 30 quid!!!. Ive got a large pot of water proof grease if you want to borrow some when you do them.

See you sunday, cant wait for a play in the mud!!!!

'Stu'

The kit I used was from 'AlllBalls' racing. ask your dealer to get you one.

Please note as I said earlier it's for the linkage only.

There was an extra bearing in mine I dont know if it is intentional or it may be a buy six get one free offer! or they expect you to wreck one putting them in!

fitting them

Insert them with the numbers facing outward. the other end is softer where they have closed up the bearing in manufacture. if you knock that end you will easily damage it.
