Hi im new to the forum and quite new to trials aswell i have been riding about 18 months, i currently have a gas gas tx320 which i have been getting on relativley well with but now have it in my mind that i want a newer bike ( a 250/290 aronud 2006 ) to help my learning. the question is, is it worth the money or is the difference in weight, power etc going to go unnoticed by someone with little experience.

thanks tim

The 320tx is big lazy beast, you can just about ride any section in any gear, I had one and it did my riding no good at all to be honest. The 06 rev3 250 is a good buy but make sure its had a recent stator change and don't worry if its leaking petrol, tiz normal for the rev3  You will find a modern 270/290 a right handfull and more than likely go backwards in your riding or sell it within a couple of months.

ok sounds like a change could be a good idea. it may sound silly but but i prefer the look of the sherco's and i want to be happy with what i buy, i dont dislike the beta but will a sherco or gas gas be as good for improving on.

as i say i know looks arent everything and at the end of the day i want to improve my riding.

Nothing wrong with Sherco or gasser, Gasser might be more maintenance but both very good bikes. Have a go on a 200 Beta if you ever see one, I came close to buying one last month, great little bikes to learn on. You will be surprised how much smaller an 06 bike is to the 320 and lighter, good luck and if you can blag a few rides on all the models better still

I had 3 GasGas 320s, a '92, a '99 and a 2000, liked them all.

When the pro came out, I tried it and didn't like it. So I bought an '03 Sherco 290, then an 05 one.

I found the Shercos very similar to the TXT GasGas to ride but a little lighter. My riding probably improved, a very little. Carburation was noticeably better.

I've had a couple of 4RTs since and the engine reminds me of those TXTs in some respects, any gear and it'll still dig you out of trouble.

Ask around at a trial, I'm sure you'll get a go on any of the makes and see what you think.

The best reason for buying any bike is cos you fancy it, justify it any way you like, but buy it because you want it.
