sawtooth
My gearbox oil is looking quite milky, i use transmission fluid which is a translucent red colour, but at the moment it looks like strawbery milkshake?! The oil is around 10 riding hours old and was changed at the same time as my mates, which dosnt look like milkshake. I changed my engine case (water pump side) at the same time as putting the new oil in so am wondering if maybe coolant is getting mixed with the oil somehow? All new parts and seals were used at the time.
hrcmonty
SOunds like the seal has gone on the water pump shaft. Or if new parts are they fitted 100%

Or if new parts are they fitted 100% Hmmm, well i'm an engineer so was quite confident, but..... i'd not done it before so i don't know. Is this the seal that i can get to quite easily by removing the water pump cover? Or am i going to have to remove the entire engine casing again? hrcmonty
Is it a new Shaft? If not you may need to replace that too. You'll see on the shaft the obvious shiny wear marks. I've just replaced mine in a 04 Raga, Cause it was badly worn.
copemech
Do you have coolant loss, or potential water entry? Allthat has to come from somewhere you know? And even with a new case? Well you know what they say, new does not guarantee good! Sounds like some close inspection is due, what it the history? sawtooth
Yes a new shaft was fitted at the same time. I've had the bike for a year and it has always been fine untill around the time i changed the case. Looks like i'm going to have to strip it down again then. sawtooth
Is the impeller shaft seals the only place where the coolant and oil could mix? Took the impeller off and the shaft seal looked ok. Edited December 20, 2009 by SawTooth
littleblackflash
I can't think of anywhere else the water could mix with the oil (Unless the crank case has a crack). Have a good inspection, re-assemble and try again.
