Sherco At Bvm Test Day

Couple of mates went to the test day and said the Sherco did'nt ride very nice at all, and they're Blue through and through. Like to have a go on one though just to see how it carburates, odd no-one has posted yet who's ridden it?

I grabbed myself a go on a 290 sherco yesterday to see what is what before I get mine and in stead of just saying oh it was good or crap for a review I thought why not go into mre detail. This one had been delivered on wednesday, rode on the saturday and did the trial on the sunday in which I got a turn on after. I was under strict orders not to rev it so I got on and tootled around :P

I was very near the bike/rider for the whole trial so I got to notice any problems or situations that the bike struggled in and I am glad to report that it was perfectly fine, enough so to even win the trial on the hard route against the likes of Tony Scarlett. That sounds even better when you remember that it had not been run it and he didn't want to open it up. I noticed on a climb he was in a higher gear than normal sitting on the bottom end and yet he still managed to do perfectly fine.

First of all I would like to point out the situation with people feeling pains in their arms. There were a few of us that had a go, some sherco riders, some gas gas and a beta rider. The sherco and gas gas riders both found it perfectly fine but the beta rider felt problems in his arms. Previous people to have complained have all been beta riders ;) It is just the same for me when I hop on a beta coming from my sherco in a way that feels very strange.

The looks, it was a whole lot smaller than I imagined and features that looked strange in the pictures were gone unnoticed. It also looks like a nicely finished bike too with the blue and black. Also noticed people who previously had said it looks poor from what they had seen a while back now changed their opinion to that it looks great.

The engine, it is quite pointless me commenting here because I am used to riding a 125 with a dellorto and this bike had both the 290 engine and a keihin carb. But for the first time ever I gat on a bigger bike than a 125 and felt comfortable, problem is it made me want a bigger bike :wacko: So there isn't really much for me to say on this front seen as I have nothing to compare it to. It sounded great though and picked up good.

The feel, I immediately was suprised by how light the front end was making it very easy for the odd hop around but I can guess what you are thinking, what about the rear end heavy problem? Well there was no problem, it was filled up just before I took my turn and while it was a little more heavy on the rear it wasn't too much, still very easy to flick around but yet oodles of grip compared to my 08. The balance seemed just about spot on.

I would carry on but It would be me rabbling as most of this is I guess :rolleyes: But I was very very inpressed, Chris I know you will be reading this, get me mine pronto!!!! :D

Good report there then! Somewhat surprised tohear it had already been changed to the Kiehin. Whose was it?

I doube the 125 power has changed much, still got to work it a bit, but will go!

A 250 is better on the transition,doubt there is much that cannot be done on one! :rolleyes:

The Sherco 290 runs better with the keihin on that is why Chris uses it. Apparently the inlet actually fits the keihin better than the standard dellorto so it is obviously designed to be fitted! I also had a go on the new bike and I must say I was very impressed. I used to be a Sherco rider for many years and then changed to a gasser. It did really feel like a gasser to ride. Its made me think a lot and i'm actually quite swayed towards the sherco now. The sherco is much better in real life than pictures. Its definitely an easier bike to ride than before, the only thing I found was that the handlebars felt low and i'm not very tall! The bike definitely gripped far better than the previous sherco's, maybe its cos of the extra weight over the back end, who knows. The bike has got more lock than before and felt very light on the front end which is never a bad thing. I rode a lap of the trial we were at and cleaned every section first time which was somehting I didnt do on my gasser so I was quite impressed!

Had two turn up at Dob Park for Yeadon Guiseley's Charity Trial. Michael Brown and Wayne Braybrook were both out on them. Didn't hear of any troubles there and Michael won the Trial on clean with Wayne fifth. I did hear second hand that icing in the carb had been a problem when starting them up initially but they seemed to go pretty well once warm.
