I am in the market for an 2010 evo. I have ridden the 290 and like it but am getting lots of guys telling me to get the 250 instead. I cant get one to ride so must decide unridden. I think the 290 easier to calm down ala gearing, flywheel weight, base gasket and throttle if I find it too much than trying to beef up a 250. I will keep this bike three years or so dont want a bike that is underpowered. Am I seeing this wrong??? any input would be appreciated.

Are you riding world rounds? do you need "a big un" Try the 200 it has enough for 90% of riders in the country. Most guys get left behind by thier right hand and too much power, most of those that don't get "stretched" arms anyway (Tendonitus etc.) What is all this thing about power anyway?

like chewy says unless you going to compete at the very highest level the 290 may be more of a hinderance than a help. i see top riders every week go clean on the whole trial on 175 and 200 bikes. your weight should play a big part in your choice. i would get the smallest smothest bike my weight could handle. im 80kgs and went for the 250.cheers

I have to say that I really did get on the with the 290 when I tried it. In wet muddy conditions, it's low down power and ability to grip was amazing.

I'm never even going to ride the hard route at club trials, so I certainly don't need the power. But it was just so easy to ride.

The bottom third of the revs felt about the same as ALL the revs on my Scorpa, I only had to be careful above half throttle :biggrinsanta:

It really seems that a 250 is the way to go esp at sea level.I have had approx 10 to 1 advice to buy a 250. Ive realized its prob my bigger is better mindset that is getting in the way. Ive only owned bigger trials bikes, 270, 280 ect and havent taken the 250 seriously. But all shops and all riders that own them say it was their best decision. Ive now ordered a 250 and think it is a good decision.

rubbish- as said above unless your riding world rounds you dont need a 290, there is enough power in a 250 for everyman in the country, i think steve saunders rides a 250 could you ride up everything he does?

Why would you say my opinion is "rubbish" I never mentioned Steve Saunders?

Isn't it down to people's own choices of what cc bike they want?

I agree with Pete_Scorpa3 about the 290's, i have one & they are a lovely bike to ride, not something that will rip your arms off.

i hate this kind of question - reminds me so much of "my pc is better than your mac" or "ford`s are better than vauxhall".

one group will say this one and the other group will say that one, all it will achive is more confusion on a decision that is yours and yours alone.

if you have riden a 290 and like it -- then buy it !! simple as that.

Hi boys

Same question really in the market for a 2010 evo and not sure which ones best 250 or 290??

Ive got a 08 rev 3 250 at the minute and thats great and was going to stick with a 250, but read a couple reviews in tmx and they say the 290 is the one to buy.

Do not want to spend all that money to get the wrong one! I heard the 290 has roughly the same power, but just more torque?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
