andrewb
Hi, I don't know whether I'm in the right section for this but can anyone recommend someone who can re-chrome my fork stanchions off a 1979/80 Montesa 349? I'm in the Nottingham area. Thanks in anticipation. Andrew

andrewb
Now that puts a slightly different angle on it. Can you remember who had them in stock? Thanks for the info.
wayne_weedon
I've never seen them new for Montesa's but they may exist. Philpotts do good work though, and unlike some of the companies advertising actually do the work inhouse. Wayne....

andrewb
Thanks Andy, The forks are still in the bike at the mo. I'll give them a ring when I get to taking them apart. Andrew
fivemeister
I can recommend A.J Calladine. Unit 4 Brailwood Close, , Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, NG22 8UG Does a lot of work for classic bike scene
ikb
Another route is to use some stanchions of something else, I used some Honda VT125 stanchions from a breakers, they are 35mm diameter but need a couple of inches cutting off and the bottom end boring out for a couple of inches and a circlip groove machining in. They cost me
andrewb
Thanks for the replies fellas. IKB, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to keep the bike as original as possible and the only fault with the stanchions is the pitting so I think it will be a re-chrome. Fivemeister. I used Calladines' about 20 years ago for some polishing. I must admit I didn't know they re-chromed forks. Well worth a call. Thanks Andrew

There's a really good welder at Bilsthorpe as well - can do almost anything (WELLSPEK) recommendation at Suzuki beamish club - http://www.beamishownersclub.com/_sgg/m8_1.htm Edited January 5, 2010 by Fivemeister
