mickwren
You are dead right Pete. Last Thursday at the Trials and Enduro Committee meeting we were hearing how the National Rally takes entries via Pay Pal and it is definately something for clubs to seriously consider for even small events. The world moves on and if we are only one step behind then we are getting somewhere
timp
Paypal is an easy way to pay. Entering trials events would be so much easier. Perhaps the ACU could encourage clubs to consider using it.
telecat
Given PayPal's reputation amongst ebay buyers and sellers maybe you should re-think this??? Personally looking at the T&C's and the angst many (including myself), have had using it I'd avoid it like the plague.
pete_scorpa3
Given PayPal's reputation amongst ebay buyers and sellers maybe you should re-think this??? Personally looking at the T&C's and the angst many (including myself), have had using it I'd avoid it like the plague. Personally I have never had a single problem with Paypal despite completing many hundreds of transactions (mostly on ebay) however I do appreciate that people do have certain issues. I wonder if the main problem that is encountered is from buyers and sellers having disputes? If this is the case, then it is far less likely that a club/rider will have issues regarding a trials entry. It's not like buying a mobile phone from a dodgy seller in China for hundreds of pounds. Only my opinion as someone who has not had any issues.... fingers crossed
mike64
Hi, I also think this is the way to go for entries, payments, results etc.. I've never had any issues with paypal but another problem possibly could be their commission - but that may be reduced by not having to send entries and results by post. The other issue would be how clubs would link into an online system ? Unless of course Trialscentral develop an online form which any event could use and take the payments etc ? then this be emailed to the events secretary on the closing date - or the Friday before the event The rider could get a confirmation of entry number and print it out for the bike?? Then riders just sign up on the day Bit of development work for andy .....

I know that the WG&DF club have such a system and it worked well for a small trial but speaking to their sec one of the main issues is matching riders payments to their entries. Their solution was to issue a unique code to each rider once the entry form had been recieved, then this was sent with the Paypal payment as a reference. Although this worked well, it does make the whole process a lot longer and requires time and organisation, I'm sure that a fully automated system can be developed to enable us to enter and pay all in one go. The WG&DF club may even have this in place themselves now. Paying the TC membership just seemed so easy, I thought it was worth a mention in this context. Perhaps Andy can give us his thoughts on the subject. Is it easy to match payments to members? How much does it cost to use? Pete
houseape1000
wtah hppanes wneh yuo aer a tencho hpboe......adn cnat ues het itnerent. Seriously, Whats wrong with pay and play. At least if you don't turn up because...// insert reason //.....then you don't have to claim the payment back!
pete_scorpa3
Yes, there will always be a case for manual payment be that in advance or on the day, not issues with that what so ever. However, we run four trials per year that are large pre enter events where an entry list and even a programme is printed prior to the trial, so for this kind of competition an on line system such as TC uses would be a real help. How many people would use it do you think? 50%, more? With entries of 120, even this would be a significant saving in time for the secretary. the addict
Got to be the way to go with Paypal, I've used it for my business for many years now and no problems at all. I'd like to hear of any problems that people have had though out of interest, I am carefull how I use it and to whom the payment goes but it is a really easy way of sending and receiving funds online. totalshell
In another world we now use paypal for subscriptions to our non league football clubs trust. members pay annually or monthly the commision is small but not insignificant at around 40 - 60 pence plus about 1% of each transaction ( the exact figures are on the paypal website.)
