Beta Cream

While servicing my 250 Beta, I checked the water in the rad only to find it was full of what I can only describe as a thick white cream, I disconnected the hoses from the main engine block and flushed out the rad as best I could while it was on the bike, as there are no signs of this cream around the engine block I connected the hoses filled it up and started the engine, this white cream still appears in considerable amounts at the filler cap, my first thoughts were oil getting in the water but from where I don't know, the engine starts and runs fine no excessive smoke or anything, has anybody else had this ? what is the cause and what is the cure, any thoughts would bo appreciated, cheers.

I'm not a Beta-ist but the symptoms you describe are likely to occur in most water-cooled bikes.

You are on the right track with your diagnosis, the oil has emulsified (mixed with the water) and the most likely reason is a failure of the water-pump seals or/and shaft.

Seems like you have caught it early..a pretty straight-forward repair on most trials bikes..hopefully a Beta-noid will chime in with a post giving the exact procedure for your model.

So you'll need to come up with more detail on your specific steed:Techno ,Rev3 ,Zero ?? etc..

The bike is a 2003 beta 250 rev 3, I am using Putoline mx 5 two stroke oil, mixing a ratio of 70:1 which doesn't seem to be alot of oil for the amount of white stuff that it's producing, but a good point that I will have to check, cheers

the fuel oil mix wont make the rad water creamy ! sounds like you have a gasket gone and its mixing tranny oil with your water

Hi, I just went thru this with my 2005 200 Beta, and the magnesium case where the water pump is had gotten pitted, as well as the shaft being worn. The replacement cases are made of aluminum and shouldn't have this problem again..

Good luck,

Tom
