qwerty
Hi, I have owned a Matchless 350 trials motor since 1965 and ready for the AMOC Towcester national Jampot rally a few years ago got it all together with 21" and 19" rims but in a road frame. I now have a desire to make it reasonably competitve in the clubmans sections. The question is what do I need to do please? I have alloy rims in stock, new tyres [they were in 2001!] and a rear frame section from an AMC lightweight plus a fiberglass tank. Your collective advice please. Thanks. Richard in Bedfordshire. big john
The road frame is really too long and too low for trials use. Try Andy Bamford, he used to make replica comp frames at one time. Most riders have put on 18 inch rear rims to get modern tyres for grip. Central Alloy oil tank is a good idea, keeps weight lower down and central and allows the use of a high level exhaust pipe and silencer set up. 1 1/8 front forks with the alloy top yolk is usual trials set up too, of course many have put in modern internals like Betor or Marzocchi. Amal Mark 1 carb suitably jetted, get a 24mm carb and use a pilot jet not a bushed pilot, My 350 runs fine on the folowing set up: Main 170; Needle 105; 2 1/2 slide; with a 30 pilot jet (no bush). Hope this helps. Big John
qwerty
Many thanks Big John, I do have an 18" alloy rim to go on WD hub and 1.1/8" standard forks. I would not know how to put other types inside them. What is the difference in performance? The carb details will be very useful too. qwerty
Thank you Charlie, Do you use an Andy Bamford frame? How much are they? I'm off to Google him ;-) Taking my grandson and my new to me, Beta 200 to the Berko trials ground tomorrow. Set up a few sections for him and I to go at.
