samo
I found this article about how to break in 4T engines. Now I'm curious if 2T has the same method? http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
tt5th
I tried it by accident when I put a new top end on my 315 (new bike to me, got the throttle cable stuck under the tank ) Didn't seem to have any bad effects I spent a while reading some of this mans' articles a while ago, some interesting reading. spark
I have always broken my bikes in pretty much like that, even before coming across the article. They have all been 2 strokes, and it works well for me.
mattylad
Either this guy is a unherolded genius who has discovered a fundamental error in the billions of pounds spent in machine development by all engine manufacturers, or....he is talking .... I know which method I will be using. Edited April 20, 2010 by mattylad
feetdown
This is sound advice for top end rebuilds I have been using this process on 2 &4 strokes for years, The confusion between this advise and the manufacturers is simple the manufacturer is advising you on a brand new engine, and the bottom end and gearbox do need a gentle break in The advice I would offer on a brand new lump is, run it in as per the owners manual then on its first oil change, bang some new rings in and run it hard to seat the rings, but to be honest I would only bother on a high performance racing lump
jimmyl
On a similar theme I was advised to run a new piston and rings in using a lower quality mineral 2 stroke oil as moden synthetic 2 stroke oil is so good no break in of piston to bore can take place effectively. perce
I saw a trade plated Ford Focus being gently run in yesterday, it went by me doing a steady 90.
