dalmahoy
Out yesterday - before heading off I was heard to comment how cheap trails bikes are to run compared the the KTM 200EXC. 20 minutes later I'm pushing the thing back to the van as a result of no spark. No warning or anything - the thing just cut out and that was it. Reckon the stator problem has raised its head. I had already unplugged the kill switch. Bike in question is a 2007 Beta Rev 3 250. Any ideas on what to check before the cheque book comes out? Cheers Rob

dalmahoy
Was thinking if its the woodruff key - the thing would still spark though - just not at the right time. The plugs not kicking out anything.

stork955
Gday, its probably the stator. Check wiring loom for any damage (outside chance) but most likely that is the issue. There is heaps of info -search the Beta forum. You are right - a sheared key will still give a spark, just at the wrong time. Cheers, Stork
dalmahoy
Had a first look last night - on removing the flywheel cover - there's a fair bit of condensation and corrosion on the flywheel. The flywheel nut is a tight one though. An air rachet will be required to get this thing off. Small air compressor I have is just not up to it. dalmahoy
New stator arrived yesterday - once flywheel was off - I was surprised the amount of cack sitting behind it. Existing stator was very gummed up. Gave it a good clean and blow out with an air line. Fitted the new stator but wasn't able to start the bike - not sure the torque setting for the flywheel. Turning it over on the kick start - a nice fat spark has re-appeared.

dalmahoy
Using a strap wrench last night to lock the flywheel - managed to get the flywheel nut very close to the required torque before the thing started slipping - annoying because because its so close. Planning to look for a better wrench tonight. Bike started first kick though. Once the flywheel is torqued - I'm happy again. Looked at using the flywheel weight screws to hold the thing but they're in tight. Tried the impact driver on them but there's no sign of movement. Bikes not far away now though.
