shooter308
I have a 74 TY 250 that runs fine, but the choke plunger will not stay in the up position when I push the choke lever down to start it when it's cold. Does anybody have a fix for why the choke will not stay engaged to start it? Thanks, Doug
alan_nc
One of my 74 TY250's has exactly the same problem. You can fix it by either replacing the push-down tab on the carb or bending your current one back into shape. If you look at a drawing of the carb you will see what holds the choke on - it has just gotten bent so it doesn't slip under the other piece correctly. I have not done either, just used it the way it is for well over a year. The bike is easy to start with one hand holding the tab down while you kick. If your bike is like mine it always starts either 1st or 2nd kick when cold and a sort of half hearted kick (without the choke on) when warm to hot. Mine will run fine when cold once I have started it so I really never have needed the choke. Don't know if my comments help at all. shooter308
Thanks for the reply Alan. I'll take a look at it this afternoon and see if I can see what the lever needs for tweaking. I do know that the lever is moving the choke plunger up and down depending upon which way you're moving it, but like you said maybe it's bent a little and just not holding the plunger up to engage the choke. stork955
Gday, they have a little spring and ball in the carb body which acts as a detent for the choke. Have a look behind the lever and see if they are still there. Mine is pretty weak and doesnt hold either as Alans above.
