old trials fanatic Posted July 27, 2010 Report Share Posted July 27, 2010 I remember Ernie and i remember riding at your place with Pennine Eagles and i even remember riding with you a very much younger Pete Carson, david Housley and all the Oakleys plus many many others LOL strange thing is i'm riding better now than i did then, only took nearly 40 years , then again it's probably more down to grippy tyres than a revelation on my part. Good report Andy. Just wanted to add that while we are remembering people i would just like to mention Ged Speed who is very ill at the moment. Ged is a very active somethingyearold and has been a part of the local trials scene for some considerable time and helped with course setting for Dales Classic along with many other local clubs. Me and Ged have had our differences in the past but i can only sincerely wish him well and hope to see him again soon at a Trial. My and i'm sure all the Dales Classic Club members have him in our thoughts at this difficult time. westyfield Posted July 27, 2010 Author Report Share Posted July 27, 2010 Hi Paul, very sad to hear of Ged's problems. He is in hospital at the moment undergoing tests and scans. It's not until we come close to losing our friends that we realise what good people there are in this trials world. Most people who know Ged would call him a good friend. Ernie Roper passed away a good number of years ago and as you say, we were very young in 1970, 17 in fact. I was riding a standard 125 Sprite, Pete Carson a "Goldfinger" 125 Sprite and didn't you later have a a Zundapp engined one? You only had to get a Second Class award in a Centre Trial then to get made up to Expert which happened to me at an Ilkeston Club Open to Centre trial at Two-Dales.. what a fantastic venue that was. Pete was made up to expert shortly after I remember.. whatever happened to him?? Who would have thought we would be back doing this 40+ years later. David Housley, son of Eric of course, DOT agent and early Ossa agent, put together that wonderful Ossa engined Dot that David rode so well. The cycle parts were from the not so successful Minarelli engined Dot trialler with the 230cc Ossa engine if I remember correctly. I wonder where that is now? I wonder where David is now? sooty757 Posted November 9, 2012 Report Share Posted November 9, 2012 i have to answer nostalgia; and i am sure we have mee tlong time gone i was,looking at clay-cross Kawasaki and thought about Eric and David; when i came across this post. i ,was a regular Pennine eagles rider at Youlgrave in 1970 and later, still a schoolboy. i remember Pete Carson, from there ,and because i spent time at Micks ground and in his workshop at Elton, brother Barry,and his Mum and Dad Still have,my Pennine eagles badge on the table.i had a sprite for a while,Gaunt Suzuki Ossa Bultaco and back to the not so good RL250, thinking about the Ropers as i read your post before the end,do you recall the Blair Family Andy Steve ,and Parents. Steve sadly died;;, After i left school in Bakewell, i was at school with Steve, Dave H, in Chesterfield ,if Cookes still runs it a weekend away for me with that included got a lot of photos from those days of people you must have know, from Derby and Pathfinders , Pennine Eagles and other trails in the 70,s blo=dy instresting thanks 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Andy and Steve Blair were very good riders at the time and it was very sad that Steve was lost so young. I also have one of those Pennine Eagles chrome and enamel radiator badges, still in it's box, but must admit it is hidden away in the attic somewhere! It would be good to see the photo's you have though. A few of us are having a practice ride up at Youlgreave on Sunday.. we'll set a few sections, ride, drink coffee, natter and ride again so if you are free, come up and say hello.. we'll be there from 11 ish for a few hours. jim brown Posted September 1, 2014 Report Share Posted September 1, 2014 I read your posts and the reference's to Eric & David Housley, I'm trying to get information on a bike supplied by Eric to a rider called Roy Pickering, the bike was a TriBSA T100 engine and (possibly) a Gold Star frame, if anybody has any information on Eric, The Bike, or Roy Pickering I'd be grateful.
