mcman56
Looking at rotating kickers for C15 or Cubs with the clevis pin type mount, everything I see is massive looking steel mounts. Would a similar massive aluminium (6061) mount be adequate? I suspect there is some reason I do not see them in aluminium. Thanks!!
mcman56
Aluminum was adequate for a while but eventually failed. The kicker arm had to come out pretty far to clear the foot rest so that added a lot of leverage. A thicker wall with a radius on the step would have helped but it looks like steel would be best. Has anyone been successful with Aluminum? Edited November 26, 2010 by mcman56
gii
Nice try, I made my kickstart out of 1/2" UNS32760 FLT (super duplex), slender and strong, but I've yet to try making the swivel, obviously it's no lighter than the same piece of steel, just high tensile and not subject to corrosion. You could have another go with a piece of 7075 T6, it's a lot stronger than 6061. D'you think it would help keep your feet up more? Just wondering. gii
UPB used to sell a swivel for the GasGas TXT aluminium kickstart, trouble was, the kickstart was over
mcman56
Yes, the kicker sticks out quite a bit to clear the foot rest. Plus, the clevis must add some stress. I remade in steel, made it slightly thicker and tucked in the kicker about 1/2" so hopefully it will hold.
