2002 Txt280 Editon, how Many Clutch Plates And Help Please ?

I tired a search but could not find an answer. Hopefully I did search wrong. Can anyone tell me how many clutch plates I am suppose to have fiber verses metal. Also is there a spcific order they need to be in ? I know the inner most plate is different than all of them.

My problem is the clutch was sticking from sitting. I took it apart and roughed up the plates. When I reassembled it I mixed up the order hopig to help them from sticking. I put it back together and the clutch worked on one pull. Then it quit and became very hard.

What is happening is the 2 push rods and ball in the center are not retracting. If you take the slave cylinder off the left case side the metal rod is not retracting back in. You can take the slave cylinder off and hold it in your hand. Pump the clutch and it goes in and out. I then put the slave cylinder back on and go to the clutch basket side. If I put my thumb against the push rod end that looks like a lifter then pump the clutch. The rod goes in and out. Then if I put the plates back in add the cover plate(not sure what this is called ) put the springs in.then the clutch will pull maybe once then it expands the slave cylinder until it hits the case on the other side. 3 things for sure. There is a ball in between the 1 rods. The little roller pin bearing is on the back side of the plate I dont what it is called. I believe the bearing is the throw out bearing is there. The clutch basket is smooth. There are indentations holding the fiber plates in place.

Basically the clutch is staying engaged once I reassemble it or it is stuck out.

Any help is appreciated

Mike

I guess what I am asking. Is there a specific order for the plates ? Does the outer pressure plate need to be installed a specific way ?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Hi Mike.

I couldn't quite figure out what was the question in the first post, as to the last post:

The answers are no (for most later model "Edition" engines) and yes.

Look at the pressure plate and you'll see a cast line as part of one of the spring holes. On one of the spring towers that

stick up through the spring holes in the outer pressure plate you'll see a line embossed in the top of the tower. Those

"lined" parts need to go together i.e. the tower with the line at the top (across the threaded hole) needs to go through

the spring hole with the cast line on it.

Let us know if that does not solve the problem.

Cheers.

Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That did it. Thanks...

The pressure plate had the line like mentioned. The spring tower had 2 little dots on each side of the threads right on the top... All the rest were smooth.
