My guess is that if you could keep it running uphill--like along the inside of the frame--you could do away with the reservoir.

I can't imagine it would take more than 12-16 inches of tubing to hold what the reservoir holds.

As for breathing--check if the cap is vented. My guess is that it has to be so the fluid will flow down.

I think a plug with a small hole would do the trick.

When I vented my mag case, I ran the hose up by the steering neck and curved it so the opening faces down, hoping that this would keep water from flowing in during rain and washings.

This might be a good idea if you go with a reservoir hose.

You can keep the end of a hose bent by putting a piece of safety wire in it.

Looks perfect !

On the Supersport bikes I have worked on, the rear brake resovoir is always replaced with a simple tube.

Never had any problems, with water/dirt getting in, even in 8 hr endurance races when its p**sed down from the start to finish of the entire meeting. Only problem we had was when the vent hole got blocked, the fluid expanded and the wheel locked up !!

It wouldn't be a bad mod on a GG either :angry:

There are three 2.9 sherco's running around this area with nothing but a piece of clear tubing in place of the reservoir, vent DIF just left the fluid half inch shy of the top and wound a little bolt in the tube to seal, then ziptie the tube to the frame in front of the shock.

Why!!! my RTL only had a tube and if it was good enough for them it's good enough for me.

Problems, three years on and not come across one yet, but don't take my word for it.

I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work, clear tube gives a visual indication if needed, and a breather if you think that there will be any need for expansion or contraction. As ishy says it works fine with a bolt.

I'll give it a shot.

First few I did were 1/4 clear tubing with a bolt stuck in t'end, my 05 I got a bit creative and spent seventy five cents on two vacume hose connectors and a rubber vacume hose plug to cover one end, this made it so I didn't have to use a full hose just connect to the factory hose and job's a good un, took a good twenty minutes to do job.

That is definatly not good on a superbike! Was the rider OK?

Just to answer this question, there wasn't a crash !

The fluid was expanding as the bike lapped the circuit and the rider braked as normal, this made the brake start to bind, this generated more heat, which caused the fluid to heat up further, building more pressure in the system, which made the brake bind even more, this cycle continues until the bike gracefully grinds to a halt - 140 bhp at the wheel at a standstill due to the blocked vent.

Lots of head scratching when the recovery van brings the bike back to the garage. Moments before we all grabbed a spanner and took the engine out one of the lads piped up 'Look at the disc, its completely F888ed',

We spent an hour getting the wheel out as it was locked solid and the disc was still warm, disc and pads went straight in the bin, unblocked the vent, new chain on, new wheel on and a podium spot in Race 2 :angry:
