dgshannon
Just in case you were not warned, due to the fuel injection, NEVER touch the throttle while trying to kickstart the bike. 1) Don't kick the bike hard. Just push through the kickstart smooth and even. 2) If it does not start in just a few kicks, reset the injection by opening the throttle WIDE OPEN, and pushing the starter easy through the stroke once. Most of the time that they will not start, and smell as you describe, is due to the engine dying with the fuel injection in the midst of a brain fart mapping wise. Pushing the starter through once, with the throttle open, clears the map and resets everything back to the idle state. After that, will almost always start right up. dye29
so i open the throttle fully and while doin that push kick start down ,ill try that tommorow i tryed just throttle to reset last time maybe no wonder it didnt hopefully that will sort it thanks, also any idea on clutch regards ste
the addict
Make sure the idle speed is set at about 1800rpm to charge the system, seems high at first but you get used to it. Hold the throttle wide open then close it, then push the kickstart down slowly, should fire next good push
jimmyl
Always stop with kill button - never stall to stop the bike. Make sure tickover is not too low when it does start running. After doing a reset as described above press kill button before trying to re start. I also snap open and close throttle and press kill button prior to starting if it does not start first time. the addict
how do i no when its at 18000 rpm regards ste When the piston goes flying past your head mate lol, a digital rpm counter is a good buy for a 4rt, quite cheap these days, usually you just wrap a wire around the plug lead to let you know what the tickover is
jimmyl
Was going to say you know it rights when it starts first time and you stop stalling it but think addicts suggestion is better. PS Always let it warm up for a minute or so before opening throttle - don't do a two stroke thing and blip the throttle when cold
dye29
thanks all for help ill try that now sounds promising , sorry im new to these 4 strokes but is it normal for the engine to have a really quiet rattle, Edited September 21, 2010 by dye29
mark1984
dont touch the throttle when starting the 4rt just kick it and it will go. The petrol smell is when you flood the motor with fuel cos you have the throttle wide open.
