betanz
Hey guys, I need some advice. Im 16 and am riding a 2001 rev 3 250 but I am looking to upgrade to the likes of a 2008 rev 3, I really want a 125 because it is said that the 125 makes you work the bike but others say that I will probably want a 250 in about a year due to aparent lack of power and me and the old man cannot afford to change bikes every year so I need a bike that I wont want to replace within a couple of years. Preferably I would like to stick with Beta as we know the dealer and he is such a great guy. would also consider an 09 evo but im unsure on the 125/250 thing so any advice would be awesome. Cheers Brad.
steptoe
A 125 is likely to make you work harder with your technique and therefore a better rider in the long run even if you find the big stuff harder in the short term. Having said that it is amazing what J Sheppard and Saleri get those 125,s up in the youth worlds. Also Sheppard has won adult expert A British Championship rounds. The last one in kent involved some massive steep climbs and steps that most good centre experts would walk away from. He is a fair size lad 6ft+ 180cm tall. Also a friend of mine has just bought one as a spare for his lad doing nationals.Last week he made a comeback onto the local expert route and reckoned he had loads of fun and his best result in 15yrs!! The choice is yours but have ago on both. Personally I think its worth saving up a bit more and getting an evo. I like the idea of the 125 because if you have a good result you can remind your mates that you were only on a 125 and if you dont you have a ready made excuse!.... Good luck with whatever you decide

Cheers Brad. I've spent 2 years on a 125 having previously ridden a 280 and have loved every minute of it. Felt more controlled and as already stated I had to get the maximum out of the bike which is what I wanted to learn. Rode a 250 a few weeks ago and am on one for the Scott in a few weeks. It feels very heavy and hard to get the most out of it and I find myself being lazy on it and relying on the throttle too much. Depends on your weight and what you want to do I guess but I'm 76kg and its taken me round the Scottish and lots of road trials with out any hesitation. I'd personally ride a bike and be able to be aggressive than using caution so find the smaller engine suits my style which is a biketrials background. Get a good go on one and see if its right for you, if not maybe consider a 200 as well
motovintage
you are already on a 250, I would stay with the 25o since you will be on the bike for a few years
petejohn
Hi Brad You are on a 250 now, but its old in comparison to the almost new bike. I got a 2010 125 evo for my son, after a 200 gg 04, no comparison. The evo is just a beast, lots of power, loads of tourque. you can do sections in 1st to 4th gear, and he never seems to be reving its nuts off. John has just had a double win at the last north island rounds at inters, so the skys the limit. You do have to work harder with more rider imput, but you will be a better rider in the long run. Dont be influenced by the point and shoot style used by many nz 250 riders. John Haynes will be at the nationals, make sure you ask him for a ride and have a decent ride, i am sure a 125 will last you many years. regards Pete

I am 5ft 10 or 11 and my wieght is about 62 or 62kg, I am used to the 125 2 stroke power delivery as my previous bike was a Honda CR125 so I think that a 125 would be great. It would most likely be pauls 08 125 on trademe for $6995, what do you guys reakon.

I assume you'd travel the hour or so to see him at the nationals in 2 weeks & have a good look etc at it
