Map Programing a 4RT

Hey all.

Been a while since i last posted so i thought I would end my duck as it were.

I have a mitani 280cc kit on my bike now with a twin map PTB. This has made the bike even better to ride and control as i can use the torque more.

However I have been wondering about changing the mapping to find one that suits me better. The PTB is suppose to be set to mild and wild but I cannot tell the difference between the maps really. Compared to the vortex on my crf where i can feel the map changes instantly it seems silly to have two maps so similar.

I have the cables and software from a 2005 4rt but I have never used it. Can anyone explain the process or if I need an updated software for the twin PTB? I think the maps are different between the single PTB and twin PTB?

Also does anyone know of any pre existing maps people have published that I can try out? I have heard that a Laia Sainz map for a 280cc barrel has been floating about. Has anyone got a copy I can try please?

Any idea where I can get the 07 software???

Have any of you played about with these maps? Any recommendations? I would imagine that it is all down to personal preference.

Is their a massive difference with the Sains map? I am curious to see if it is overly powerful or more progressive than standard.

Once i get round to playing about with the maps I will report back my findings. Now just to convince the Mrs to let me keep the bike in the living room for a few days. Garage is really too cold for this type of work. :P

Would suggest you try a few of the standard maps out and about first

I found mild and wild unsatisfactory having run the Sains map for a long time. 250 mitani map suited me and I've just tried a flat map in the Scott which helped but switched to sains map on bigger stuff.

I think you need to find a map that suits your riding style and then learn how to maximize it.

Hey all

I have just started having a play with these maps. Planned on trying some maps a lot sooner but work has kept me busy.

Basically I have hit another slight snag. I am struggling to set both maps on the twin PTB. I can download and change the first map fine. However the first problem is that I am unable to download the second map. It has crossed my mind that both maps are the same map but this makes no sense.

Also when I try to upload a new map to mode 2 just keep getting a error message "ECU unable to shift to data set mode." This makes no sense as I can set mode 1 without any problem.

Any ideas from you guys will be appreciated.

I trust you have converted maps to twin PTB format.

Check Port on Computer is set to match port on software

Also some Info I had given to me as follows

The handlebar switch doesn't affect the uploading.

1) Uploading to mode 1

if you select mode 1 for fuel and ignition then the selected map is placed in the ECU in memory position 1.

2) Uploading to mode 2

If you select mode 2 for fuel and ignition then the selected map is placed in the ECU in memory position 2.

3) Uploading to mode 1 & mode 2

If you select this option there is no need for a handlebar switch because both memory placed have the same information. The selected mapping is send to meory position 1 and memory position 2.

4) Switching Ignition and fuel

if you only select fuel or ignition, only the selected setting wil be uploaded to the selected memory position.

Reading mappings from the ECU.

This sounds a bit strange, but only the last uploaded mapping can be read back. So if your last upload is to mode 1 then it only possible to read back that mapping from mode 1,

If your last upload is to mode 2, only mode 2 can be read back.

so every time you change something in the mappings you have to write it down somewhere.

Been running Sains map on both of my 4rt over the last few years but had "otar5" map as a second map on 2 map PTB. I liked the initial softness of Otar map but love the mid top end of the Sains map. As had week off work thought I would spend a morning comparing maps and try to create a combined map.

Listed all fuel and ignition variables from the 2 maps onto spread sheets so I could compare differences. Then working with the Sains map I altered bottom end values to that of Otar5, trying to ensure a nice linear transition. I think each map has 96 fuel values and 96 ignition values so had to compare nearly 400 points.(doesn't help when rev and % throttle opening intervals where different on the 2 maps) Probably changed 20 values each fuel/ign at the lower end of Sains map. Also did ease off some of the mid range fuel values as well as Sains map is heavily fueled.

Used the various graph displays to make sure no holes or peaks had been created inadvertently. Then just a matter of downloading to bike.

A quick play on the bike yesterday seemed to confirm that what I had intended had been successful -will see what weekend brings.

PS - decided to call the map "Middle aged Sains Map" - Same model as current Sains but bottom end not so firm.

i dont understand why you still want to use part of a map not written for a 250?

Cos I've not found a Map that gives the same smooth mid to top end as the Sains map?

250 to 280 is only a 10% increase so not a major difference but open to suggestions for a 250 map.

I ride bottom gear majority of the time and like the rev and drag ability of the Sains map.
