monty_jon
Would a late Montesa cota 123 be under powered for a 13 1/2st rider?
vintagecota
It would be OK if it were in real good nick. You'd have to wind it up pretty tight to get up bigger stuff. You'd only be able to use 1st gear up anything appreciable, so it's a fine line between enough power and spinning the wheel.
motovintage
not sure how stones translates to US pounds but this bike is under powered, putting an after market carb make a lot of difference in power, the bike is good for lower classes that don't have big walls or climbs, what makes this bike great is it only weighs 175 pounds. jsd
I purchased a 1980 123 Cota for my son when he turned 13. He took to it immediately. Great bike for him to learn on. Light and nimble. Need to take care with the kick start gearing. Fragile and will break if not gentle. I put a compression release on it to make it easier to start so my son would kick the thing to death. My son is now 15, over 6 ft. tall and now rides a 348. We still have the 123. I like to ride it because it is so light. For me, needs more power. Have a 200 barrel and head for it but have not picked up a piston yet. Jeff
