sunny
Is this a factory tank or has this been "made up"? I looked around on the net but did not see anything simular. I got it over the weekend in a batch of parts ...it seems to be raining Montesa stuff lately. Some shots of the other bits that I picked up in the lot. Motor has what seems to be the very common broken shaft and missing fly wheel. It has both side cases in good condition. Too bad the light is missing the body. feetupfun
Yes that looks like the tank from a 348T

sunny
Thanks for the info. The photos I found online I did not notice the rear lip/hold down and that made me think it might have been altered tank. Sunny
belldane
And the best of luck trying to get that primary gear off if you are going to restore the bike. I have found they come off really easy sometimes or can be a pain in the you know what to get off.
bpilgrim
That crank has snapped just like mine, I recently bought a spare engine which is in great condition, intact crank with flywheel and kick start gear seems solid, but my 348 has matching numbers, so I plan to swap the crank and kick start gear, and also get the crank cases patched up. Does anyone know if cast aluminium can be welded? I'm guessing it'd take a specialist, the part of the RH crankcase that acts as a stop for the kick start has broken away. The cases can be repaired, but as you pointed out you need to find someone who knows what they are doing. I repaired a similar failure on one of the 348's I purchased with a metal based epoxy, but I had all the pieces and merely had to 'glue' them back in place along with some extra epoxy for reinforcement. It's lasted more than 3 years at this point.
