Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a new 2011 gas gas and can't make up my mind which one to go for, 280 or 300.

I liked the power of my 09 evo 290 and 2011 sherco 290 and didn't find them a handfull at all so i'm not interested in the 250, i like bigger cc bikes generally.

I don't know why gas gas make 2 x bikes with the cc so close, (280 & 300).

Has anybody riden / owned both and what are the plus & minuses about both bikes??

Any info greatfully received.

Thanks.

Hi,

I sold my 2010 280 cc gasser was a right handfull, snappy power, not smooth, hard to get grip smoothly in muddy conditions and in summmer when bone dry you gotta treat it with respect. I rode the recent test day on all of them and found the 300 nice and grippy but still very strong engine. The 250 was a dream, usable power and unless your an expert rider forget the bigger models, it wont make you better in my experience. So happy with the 250 now. Oh yeah im an intermediate so gives u some idea. Good luck what ever you choose.

Thanks for the reply's guy's

I'm not looking for a bike that i'm going to get bored with quickly, i find the smaller engine models very easy to ride and very predictable, i'm more interested in having a bike that will make me smile rather than being ultra competitive. I'm a bit of a to old to worry about getting good so i might as well enjoy myself. Loved the power of the old 270 rev 3's, a lot of people thought they were a right handfull but for me it was just right.

As for my 6 week old sherco, well lets just say its going back!! I'm not one for bashing makes models etc as i think they all have there issues and always will.

Any more input is appreciated.

Trials bikes always seem to suit different riders, they seem to be more personal than many other types of motorsport. I'm getting ride of the sherco because of the issues with the fuel tank and the contamination / hastle, the poor design of the fuel filter, it's location & the very poor design of the airfilter, if anything passes the air filter its down hill all the way to the bottom of the engine as i found out in my first trial & so have 2 x other mates who ride them.

I didn't want to turn this into a this bike is good or bad debate more of info on the bikes asked about & there plus and minus points and why people like or dislike. I understand not everybody want to buy the same bike and thats fine, i'm just after some general info.

I am leaning more towards the 280 for the fun factor!!

In my opinion the 280 is more 'specialist' rider suited.

When I've ridden them they seem more fiery and snappy than the 300 and generally (from what I've seen) it's only good expert standard riders buy and own them.

I find the 300 ticks every box - lovely and smooth, great low down torque, awesome power when needed. The 300 seems to ridden by and liked by a huge cross section from decent clubmen up to top top level stars.

However, as above will be down to your preference.

i ride a 2002 280 pro. its a handful if your not on top of it. i rode a 2009 300 pro and its a much mellower bike. my 280 seems to always have traction and for that i respect it. IMHO, if you ride a 280, easy on the throttle and respect it.

compared to the 300 is much sharper, quicker, dangerous, and more fun!

My son has an 05 280, wife a 10 250 and I have an 07 300. I like the way the engine makes torque the best on the 300, the 250 is a close 2nd and the 280 isn't my cup of tea. Hard to explain I just know I like the low end on the big motor. The 280 likes to more revs. If you can I would try out all three and see what fits you best. For me it's the 300.

The 300 is a fine torque pig with all one could want, yet gentile on the bottom.

None are submarines! You can screw up as gasser as well if you try ! Good luck!
