fantictrials
Hello there, I'm new to this forum but am hoping that someone might be able to give me some pointers regarding the failure of my ignition. I only used the bike a couple of weeks back without trouble, but I tried starting it this weekend to find that it would not run. After some basic tests I found that I have no spark! I've disconnected the stop switch to illiminate that but still no luck. I've also checked the wiring through and it appears ok. The HT coil is a DANSI type with three terminals earth, C and G and I suspect this might be a problem as it appears to have odd resistance measurements. Could someone advise what measurements I should see. Unfortunately i don't yet have a flywheel puller so cannot gain any further access at this time. Are there any tests that I can perform from the cable end? thanks in advance for any assistance given. Robert
lee harris
disconnect loom at the coil red to black should be 400-600 ohm green to black 40-60 If both are ok, coil is awol replacement available from steve good (ducati) if yours is a silver can, its 30 plkus years old... the ducati is wired up diffently, post here when its in yer hands lee Edited December 20, 2010 by Lee Harris

lee harris
easy, just try it. find ground...it was black. one cable to frame shiould be 0 ohms then between one and tother 40 to 60...thats the trigger and tween the other one and ground 400-600ohms. Just using an ohmmeter will not damage anything.

I have the coil in my hand. 3 terminals plus the HT cable connector Earth to G = 7.75Mohms Earth to C = Open Circuit C to G = Open circuit C to HT = Open Circuit G to HT = 7.63Mohms Earth to HT = 3.2kohms Seems like the coil is duff then? thanks

lee harris
Thanks whizzy....wauit an hour or so. I will take the tank off mein and take a piccie and post it. You are supposed to mease the cables. What is C? There are three posts on the coil fixed by 8mm nuts. Take em all off and remeber where they went. Or be a smart Ar5e and take a piccie. Std coplours where red grenn and black. Piccie to follow.. Lee
lee harris
http://fantic240pro.pagesperso-orange.fr/Ukcircuit.simplifie.htm have a look. measure down the cables. If the values are 40-60 and 400-600, then the coil is duff if yiou buy a ducati coil from say steve good, then read this http://fantic240pro.pagesperso-orange.fr/UkBon%20conseils.htm Lee Edited December 21, 2010 by Lee Harris
