philipdunphy
I am returning to Trials after a while away and am looking for a reliable machine. My mates say you can't go wrong with a Montesa 315. This one came up on Ebay this evening and even though the seller is not really near where I live, it is described as "one of the best 315's in the country" and maybe worth a look? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200563519276&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT What does the community think about the Mont 315 in general and what are the potential pitfalls with this marque? Thanks in advance! Edited January 9, 2011 by philipdunphy
coriolis
I had one of the first 315's in the country when they came out back in the 90's. It was crap ! The slide stuck and it siezed, and went through 2 gearboxes pretty much. Had it a couple of years, and in that time never once could we set the carburation right. Neither could Sandifords ! That said....Montesa did seem to iron out all the kinks in the models that followed. I rode many other 315's and have to say they were great. might as well have been a different brand, they were so much better than mine. Well balanced, soft power but enough grunt. Great suspension, great grip. Crap airboxes though ! And they went on to be proven reliable. I once observed at the SSDT, and when the back markers came round, i asked if i could ride with them. They said no because the only bikes they trust to get round were TYZ's and 315's. Fair enough!
petwar
I am in the same boat as you mate and I have got myself a tyz 250 and my mate has just got a mont 315. they are both excellent bikes for a novice. both have japanese engines and are pretty much bullet proof! It all depends on your budget and what you are looking for. I picked my tyz up for

Thanks in advance! Owned three of them. The '03 (reflected in your ad) was an excellent bike. For a novice getting back into the sport, it would be tough go wrong with that choice, if the condition is good.
