If you have a torque wrench. Check the setting of the bolts before you remove them. If your trying to soften the power of the motor some why not retard the ignition a few degres. You may get the drop in power that your looking for without taking the motor apart.

There are only four nuts holding the barrel on, from memory you would have a tricky job getting a socket or torque wrench on to them, even a ring spanner, think they are 12 af nuts, Engine building first rule cleanliness is next to godliness!. May be wise to check exaust packing is good also before lowering compressions and messing with port timings. Chech out Beta forums also good luck.

Thanks to all. Good tip to check the exhaust packing. I'm also considering adding the fly wheel weight. I'm a rank trials beginner & want to ease into this.

I decided to take the motor to my local Beta dealer: Diehl

Hi

I had similar 'issues' with the power delivery of my '08 Rev3 270 and solved it by fitting a low compression head and matched more restricted exhaust mid section.

It made a huge difference. It removed the 'snappyness' and smothed out the bottom end making it far more novice friendly

See pic below the original on the right and the low compression on the left

Crudely measured (syringe and fuel) at 15cc and 22cc

But afraid no idea if or were you can obtain them in your 'neck of the woods'!

Very interesting! Who makes the low compression head?

I got mine secondhand from a Beta dealer.

But when i tried to sell it on ebay (as i changed to a newer GasGas) the only response i got was people telling me the part didn't exisist - despite the photograph etc - i suspect a futile attempt at getting it cheap!

The no. stamped on the head is 2 352C/1 with 1/2 below, then a pair of number 1's the other side of the plug hole

Cheers

I found dropping the countershaft 1 tooth helped on my '08.

From a post in 2004 by someone named Viking. This should probably be a sticky too.
