jimbojet
Hi guys, First posting, so go easy - please!! Well, it's been 20 years since I last owned and rode a Trial bike, a Fantic 201. I've always loved off roading, had my first twist and go at 8, inspired by my Uncle who is bike crazy (he rides the SSDT etc....). I have finally decided to take the plunge. My life has changed considerably since my last bike, ie wife, 2 kids, different career etc - so I guess that's why I've been out of it for so long! I'm looking for advice please. I have NEVER rode in a Trial, I always rode my bikes for fun, although I did go to trials with my Uncle as a child (Long time ago!). I now live in Saddleworth near Manchester. I've trauled the internet and have managed to narrow my club search down to a few. Rochdale TC looks like it is the closest, so if anyone is a member and could give me some advice it would be appreciated. Likewise, I've had a look at Manchester17 and a couple of other clubs close by....Any members near Saddleworth????????? With regards to the rest, I've just won a GASGAS 250TXT 1996 model on ebay, looking to pick it up next week, looks pretty clean, and will hopefully be mechanically sound. Do you think this is a good beginners bike?? Finally, I work pretty unsocial hours, and can work several weekends per Month. What is the club protocol (if any) with regards to Trials. Can you do as many or little as you wish, or is there a minimum to maintain your membership? Thanks guys, Hope to be out there soon! scoobydo
welcome jim, your not restricted to just one club, rochdales ok moat of thier trials are in or near back cowm, try also darwen or bolton both have sensible beginner sections your almost in the best place in the world for trials make the most of it.. for help and advice i'd reccomend andy at pennine trials sport hes local to you and knows and rides trials. Yes I second that - Andy at Pennine is deffo the place to go to bikes kit spares and sound advice. The Gasser 250 txt will be a good starter bike and is more than good enough to keep as you progress ! Dont dismiss coming over to Yorkshire to ride we are friendly bunch here now and have forgiven you lot about the small civil disturbance a few hundred years ago lol ! You can join / ride anywhere once you have ACU licence which is compulsory for all riders. Spen Valley have some good and steady Novice / beginners events and pretty close to you too some of em. In fact Spen Valley has its own resident Lancashire Lad 'Big Leigh' who comes across and rides all the clubs events so there is certainly room for another one of you ! Only a quid to join the club too so not a 'bomb out' if you only ride 2-3 events over the year ! Gives you more scope to ride when your job allows ! You can ride as little or often as there are events layed on at any club. It only shows if you are riding for a series award - if you mis an event you cant score points - thats all. Remember Live to ride - not - Live to work Cheers Giles
