What are those gas gas txt 50 boys like?

They look a funny creation to me, is the engine based ont he PRO or the TXT?

Would they be alright for an 8 year old girl just starting out do you think? (my sister wants to start riding) And how long would it be before it needed replacing with somethig a bit more... technical.

No doubt it would be better than an old twinshock ty80...?

Only 2 speed, not automatic i am guessing and are the levers and pegs in the same place as the big bikes.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks Richard

I wouldn't strike it off right away Rich, although it' s a bit ugly, it is a really decent bike... They keep on going and going and for beginners who want to learn basic riding, gears and clutch it's ideal. Also, although they aren't as powerful as a modern 80, they are still pokey and will pull kids like your sister up respectable hills with ease. :(

We've run a TXT Boy for the last 2 years in the Youth Nationals, D class.

( Up to 8 years ols).

Our TY80 is down in the celler and at this standard it is not competitive. The Gasser is half the weight, more power (as in instant up a step power) fantastic brakes, suspension to die for and dead easy to ride. No contest.

Whilst the Gasser does have two gears it is an auto. The bottom gear is the only one for sections. The clutch lever does disengauge the drive just as on a full size bike. A rider can pull in the clutch before a step, build up the revs, dump the clutch and hey presto instant flight is achieved. However the bike doesn't stall if the clutch lever is left untouched, just like an automatic car I guess.

If the child is older or larger/stronger then the TY80 is still a great little bike. The gasser is quite small so the size of the child may be the deciding factor. But in D class a well riden little Gasser will stuff a TY80 every time, and my older son came second in the British Championships a few years ago on our TY80, so I do rate them.

Just keep an eye on the electrics though, they're a bit sensitive !!!!

try and get a 50 with gers like beat rev 50. gasser 50 rookie. bit better than an auto. maybe a tad to big but would be able to ride and wouldn't grow out of so quickly. our rev 50 is a beast i can ride the sections i do on my 250 on it with a little bit of extra work. p****s all over our old ty80. however a ty80 prepped in the right hands im sure would be brilliant. theres still nothing quite as compact and powerful as the ty. (ty80 my first ttrials bike i loved mine)
