ericm
My '03 SY250's front brake is kind of weak. The lever comes in quite a ways too. I've changed the fluid and bled it, no difference. Has anyone tried the Galfer trials wave rotor? Or the Galfer kit with caliper? Are there better pads I could be using (I'm still on the stock ones). Thanks.
boofont
Check the pistons, one of mine seized, had the same problem.
jenkinsm
Yeh i fitted one to a 1998 montesa back in the day. it was quite good but the problem with scorpa's is that the front disk is so small there is little braking surface. would split caliper, give it all a good clean, wap a fresh set of seals in, then see if you can get a larger front disc, you'd be amazed at the difference it will make. shercool
I had a problem with the front brake on my old Scorpa, it turned out to be the copper grease on the back of the pads working its way round on to the braking surface, as soon as the disc warmed up the brake was rubbish. A new set of pads without copper grease on back solved the problem. I used to use Apico pads, always worked fine for me.
craftypiggy
Why do some brakes have copper grease on the back and some not? Lloyd
steveo
Hey craftypiggy, No pads come standard with copper grease. Most likely the owner had a problem with the disc pads squealling and has put a smear of copper grease on contact area between piston and the back of the brake pad to remedy this annoying squeal. As Shercool noted, if it is more than a tiny smear when the braking pads heat up the excess grease then runs and contaminates the braking surface, rendering them useless.
