handsome_al
Hi guys. Bear with me as I'm new to forums and probably not the sharpest tool in the shed! I have a TY250 mono (1987) with plastic tank. As you all know (as do I now!) plastic tanks can't be painted without blistering at a later date; so my question is ..... what other TY tank (steel/alloy) if any, will also fit the mono? Is it a straight swap or are mods needed? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
searay175
I tried the repaint also, sure looks nice for about 3 weeks! I recently stopped at a vinyl sign shop in my city and the gal said she had a very thin vinyl that was perferated with holes, I never could detect holes and quite flexible. She gave me a piece to try. So I cleaned all the old blistered paint off, and made a half a-------d attempt at applying it, same results looks ok from 50feet and starts to wrinkle after 2-3 weeks. A new plastic skin would be great but the aftermarket manufacterer here in the U.S. doesn't make one and won't as they claim there's not enough market for the tank skins. I had kicked around the idea of trying to make a skin out of fiberglass cloth and resin but soon realized I would have lots of time and money tied up in a failed attempt. If you search the entire forums you will find several posts with ideas and mixed results, most poor. If they only came new in a ugly yellowed white new no one would care. Good luck! Hi searay175 ........ thanks for replying. I've already 'skinned' the tank with fiber-glass and resin (spent humongous hours on it) but alas all to no avail. The tank was a mess thanks to the previous owners attempts with a flap-disc grinder!! I'll just have to wait my time until something turns up. It's not stopping me from using the bike ........... it just looks AWFUL! Cheers Alan

handsome_al
I've ordered their catalogue on-line but meanwhile I've downloaded it via pdf and all I can find is on page 33 TY250 Twin Shock Tank/Seat Unit (not pictured) ............. but that's twin-shock, not MONO. Am I looking in the wrong place? Also it doesn't mention price. The photo online doesn't say "twin" or "mono" - just Yamaha TY250 - but it looks very neat and is

handsome_al
scratt, You're a STAR! Thanks for the info AND the part number! I get the feeling that Miller's website mustn't be up-to-date because the cat I've just downloaded has Venhill cables on page 13 and chain tensioners on page 14. I entered the part number you listed and their search tool came up blank. It's looking like a phone call to S.Miller Products is needed after I get home from work. Thanks once again. handsome_al
Well guys I reckon I'm not meant to get one of these because each day this week I've been late home from work and too late to phone Sammy Miller ... until today that is ......... and they are CLOSED!
