I don't suppose anyone has a copy of 'The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001' by any chance?

2. GENERAL LOCATION

2.1. The mounting for the rear registration plate of a motorcycle, motorcycle combination or tricycle must be located at the rear of the vehicle in such a manner that:

2.1.1. the plate can be positioned within the longitudinal planes passing through the outer extremities of the vehicle.

3. INCLINATION

3.1. The rear registration plate:

3.1.1. must be at right angles to the median longitudinal plane of the vehicle;

3.1.2. may be inclined from the vertical by not more 30

Cheers for that bulltaco, I knew there would be some technical jargon somewhere that would burst my bubble :rolleyes: If only the authoroties could instill such precision to some of the drivers out there?

So the moral of the story is that unless you have a full size plate with the correct lettering, spaces and borders mounted in a specific manner then you're liable to be nicked me old son! Just as well most local constabularies employ some common sense when there's a road trial event going on?
