hi i have a 97 315 it is in good condition but ive got a whirring rumbling noise not too loud but not good no knocking or rattling or excessive vibration what do you think are the water pumps prone to failure and if so do they make much noise

also i have a leaking fork seal it is the older chrome type forks a guy told me you dont have to remove the forks to do the seal just undo the clamps slide the tube through the top and change it surely it cant be that easy

thanks for any help

neil

best way for me to confirm mains trouble was to take plug out and turn the motor over (Kick) if its a "deep" whirring its a fair bet the mains are shot. I'm sure there have been many contributions in earlier forums about this try searching the bike specific forums.

REMOVE FLYWHEEL COVER AND TRY TO MOVE FLYWHEEL UP + DOWN BY HAND - ANY MOVEMENT = WORN BEARINGS

UNSCREW OR LOOSEN FORK SEAL HOLDER (EASIER ON BIKE) , REMOVE FRONT WHEEL + FORK LEG WITH LEAK , SLIDE SEAL HOLDER OFF FORK LEG , REMOVE CIRCLIP + SEAL + REPLACE WITH NEW SEAL , LUBRICATE WITH FORK OIL + REFIT CIRCLIP . NO NEED TO DRAIN FORK OIL BUT KEEP LEG UPRIGHT WHEN DOING SEAL
