ross_champion
Just wondering how many of you guys train on a bicycle. I was not thinking about a pure trials bike. But some kind of mountian bike that could do doubble duty as a trials trainer as well as something you could ride to get a good workout on. I have usually spent a fair ammount of time in the gym, but over the past year I have had a tough time with injuries from other forms of racing which make the gym more of lesson in frustration than a workout. At any rate I guess what I am asking is if you guys ride a bicycle what kind is it? Thanks
marky g
Normal MTB, use it for going to work on when it's not p****** down :snowman:
jtt
Used to do alot of Mtbing, but destroyed knees have pretty much ended that. I still ride occasionally. Tried to get into the bicycle trials, with some help from R2w, but the "mod" bike was too small and painful. I may yet get another hardtail 26" wheel ride
beta-boy
i just got in to mountain biking for some cross training i do some trials on it to, its realy helped with my leg strength and its good for balance too, but nothing beat the motorcycle trials bike :santa1:
sherco pete
i have a trials cycle and have been ridding 1 for bout 2 years now.i found it improved my technique and ballance.i also found that i could adapt the techniques 2 the motorbike eg.flicking it about ,hopping,WHEELIES,stoppies and it also improves bike fitness.so i think it definetly helps 2 train on a push bike/trials cycle. ross_champion
Thanks for the input! I think I'll probably end up getting something before to long. But I need to do some research. I am guessing a small framed hard tail mountain bike would work ok as sort of a dual purpose training bike. But it may just end up making a crap mountian bike and a crap trials bike. We will see. But thanks for the answers just the same. :beard:
jtt
Haven't completely given up yet Heath! I'm keeping my eyes out for a decent, but cheap, small MTB frame. I've got most of the other stuff, or can rob from my other bikes.
mattr
I have also considered doing BikeTrials recently for cross-training. There are several sites worth visiting for more information. http://www.biketrials.com/ http://www.trials-online.com/ Go to trials-online and click on "Trials Bikes 101". You can read about modifications on a standard XC mountain bike to make it trials-worthy. Matt
firecapt
I have trained for several years on a trials bicycle.. I think they are great tools for cross-training.. especially with regards to balancing, and moving the bike around (nose wheelie turns, front wheel hops, side hops). And of course to build stamina/endurance. As far as cardio exercise goes, the bicycle beats riding a treadmill or stairmaster, etc... There are several sites (one could find in a search) selling used 26" trials bikes that could serve as dual purpose machines... i would agree that you should stick with rigid forks.. You definitely should get a bike with trials specific components or you will just find yourself repairing the bike if you spend much time riding trials on it. I have both a 20" and 26" bicycle, and I like the 26" with respect to training for trials because the wheel base is closer to that of the motorcycle. For instance, for practicing nose wheelie turns on a 26" bicycle the motion is very similar to that on the motorcycle.. and more importantly, it "feels" very similar.. time to practice, Wesley
ross_champion
MatR, Thanks for the links there was a lot of good information there. And to the rest who took time to respond, thanks I have one more question, and then I'll take my bike questions to the bike sectoin where they shoudl have been. What would you think about a trials crank and possibly bars on a 24" BMX type bike? Since I have the bike...
cota kid
I get out as much as I can on my Specialised Rockhopper, I've got a set of decent lights so I can still go off road at night during the Winter Months. I certianly helps build up the stamina. Always fancied a bash on a 26'' trials cycle but reckon I'd look a bit of a tw*t , at my age, on one. CK I mean twit of course.
