mcman56
What type of seal is used on a 97 techno clutch cover? RTV silicone seems prone to leak. This bike had what appeared to be a ring of solder for a seal but it is no longer round so I can't tell the diameter. (I have heard of that before but can't remember where.) bob
Shouldn't there be a gasket? You mean the metal case right, on all the bikes I have worked on there has been a gasket.
mcman56
I have always seen a gasket or an o-ring. Unfortunately, the on line parts list I found does not show that piece.
spokes
Its an O ring that sits in a groove in the GB casing. My mate recently removed and refitted his Techno clutch cover and ever since it has leaked !! We are gonna fit a new seal soon .
philswiv
Aye, it's a round rubber O-ring. I put some new clutch plates in recenly and the seal was a swine to replace. Once set free it seems to have life of its own and doesn't want to return to the darkness of the clutch housing. I think I sould've put a new one in because, A - It wouldn't have been so distorted. B - It now leaks a few drops once the engine is really hot and C - It would have been kind to the old one to grant it it's freedom.
stuessenhigh
Yep should be a large o ring. Quite cheap to buy so probably best to get a new one. I usuall put a couple of very small dabs of silicone in the groove to just hold the o ring in place whilst re-installing the case cover. Otherwise it tends to keep moving. good luck
