4ourtea Posted May 20, 2011 Report Share Posted May 20, 2011 I don't know of any website you can go to but you may be happier to hear that I have a spare manual you could have. It is an '06 4RT manual but the difference between an '06 and '08 bike is not that significant - the only major change was the work they did on the cams in '07 (I think - I stand to be corrected by others...). The oil I use is REPSOL 4 stroke synthetic oil - never had a problem with it. Change it as often as you can - i do mine after every 2 trials. Drain plug just beneath gearbox sprocket. Filling cap on top of casing, accessed using a screw driver (I find the dip stick hole a right fiddle to get oil into). Make sure bike is level when you refill. Unscrew the black dipstick by the sprocket, and then just clean it off and drop it back into its hole, but DO NOT screw it in - leave it hanging in there and re-fill until oil reaches MAX mark on dipstick. To change filter, I remove the sump guard, drain out oil, lay bike over on its right hand side & unscrew the main case cover. Remove the cover (the gasket will probably tear so have a new one to hand). If looking straight at flywheel, immediately to the left of the flywheel is a small circular cover with a tapered spout (and o-ring on it)that seats into the removed cover. This circular cover is held in place by a single captive bolt. Unscrew the bolt and carefully remove it - don't drop it off the end of the socket as it could get behind the flywheel. Then remove the circular cover (bit fiddly but it will come with a twist) - the filter lies within there. The filter is also a little tight to extract but is easy enough. There is a spring in there too (behind the filter) and when replacing a new filter I put a dab of grease on the filter/spring mating surfaces so that it stays in place as the new filter is pushed into its seat. Reverse process to reassemble. Gearbox oil is recommended as ELF HTX. Lots of writings about which oil to use - I have had a 4RT for nearly 6 years and have always used the ELF (available from BVM Moto, amongst others)and never had any clutch issues at all. It may be expensive, but then if you want you bike to be the best, you have to give it the best IMHO. Air filter is under the seat/mudguard - clean after every ride and use a decent foam filter oil. Some say the foam filter oil is only necessary for bikes used in Spanish / dry / dusty places - nonsense in my view. Why risk any British dust getting into the engine to wear away rings, etc?
