crazyrickuk
folks a somewhat silly question - My dad and i bought bikes within a week or each other. he got a 99 tx270 and i bought a 97 jtx250 (gas gas). He has been having trouble with the bike going through plugs - and the guy he bought it happened to he was using leaded petrol in the mixture. For my 97 tjx250 bike - should i be using leaded or unleaded fuel when mixing up the 2 stoke mix? thanks, Richard
jordi
Unleaded is fine.
charliechitlins
There's very little difference. A lot of money was made installing hardened valve seats, etc. when lead went out, and it turned out to be for nothing. If there's anything you should want out of your gas, it's alcohol. 02-apr
I can't imagine it being possible to buy leaded petrol at the pumps now. Anyway, ACU Regs demand use of standard unleaded with no additional additives Edited June 13, 2011 by 2/
charliechitlins
Maybe race or aviation fuel still has lead. Lead deposits were grey/brown, dry and lumpy. If you have wet, black plugs, you have a different problem.
woody
You can still get leaded 4 star in the UK, it's not widely available but most towns/cities will probably have a supplier. It was kept on because of classic cars and bikes. Trials bikes will run fine on either so no point in paying the added cost of 4 star, probably knocking on the door of
