Hi, I am looking to buy a new evo (2011) 250 or 290? I am a fat chap at 16 stone and have only done half a dozen trials (since last riding 30 years ago)on a twin shock, which doesn't seem to like me too much, am hoping a modern bike will be a tad more enjoyable? Any help would be appreciated.

I recently had this dilema too, I was looking at 290's (coming from a 2001 sherco 290) and then spoke to one of the guys who trains at the ESTC, he mentioned that for 90% of people a 250 would be more than capable, after this I looked at 250's, I am not on the slim side either, usualy around the 18 1/2 stone mark, so I bought a 2009 250 evo and it is ample, the only time you sometimes miss the larger CC is for low down torque, but after a few rides you learn to ride the bike slightly different to compensate, I have done everything I could do on the sherco and MUCH more in the 3 weeks I have had the bike, the only things that I ended up changing is I have fitted a quick action throttle, removed the fly wheel weight and added the 20% stiffer spring from SXS, I love this bike!

For the record, I haven't ridden any trials yet, but at the training days at the earl shilton trials club I am put in the hardest group, so would put myself somewhere around the 50/50 and low end expert riding.......

Hope that helps

Adam

Can't go wrong. Best bike I have ever owned, by far. I weigh exactly what you do, and their is not even the slightest concern for power.

Try riding a Scorpa SY175F for about 18 months. Guarantee no 250 will ever seem under powered!

290 all the way. No subsitute for cubes. I honestly think a larger engine can be toned down to use the torque which is what is easy to use. ie if i were to ride a 125 id be on the clutch and dropping it to make it go most likley spinning out, now on a larger bike just ease the clutch out and let the torque do its job.

Best bike ive had to date was me GasGas 300 it was amazing loads of low down power softer than the 250.

Curious as to why you felt the need to remove the flywheel?
