gasgas249uk
Hi, I've got a fiberglass seat base. Ive got a foam seat pad which sits perfectly on it. The challenge that I have is when I wrap it in vinyl I'll need a good finish so need it tight in place. How do I hold the edges down , tucked underneath?? Fiberglass won't staple will it? Glue won't stick well enough. I could screw it in many places. Is there a better way?.
woody
Seat upholsterers use glue to fix the cover to a fibreglass base. No idea what sort, probably special adhesive for that specific purpose, but it works. If you have an upholsterer near to you it's worth getting them to do it, they will make a foam and cover and fit it for about
martinm
Evostick or a similar contact adhesive. Coat a one inch wide strip on the base and the vinyl cover where you want them to join, leave each bit to dry for around 15-20 minutes and then stick them together. You get a better finish by fixing the front and back edges first, then one side at a time. I have done hundreds of SWM seats like this (they have a fibreglass base and vinyl cover) with decent results every time. Oh, and another tip, stick the foam to the base before you try to attach the cover. Cheers Martin
gjbiker
I've used pop rivets in the past without any problems? It would depend on how thick the base was though? GJ
ross brown
If there's a surf board shop near you call in. They use a tough and waterproof glue (sorry can't remember its name) to hold vinyl foot pads to the fibre-glass board.
