sweersz
Hey guys. I have a 1989 Beta and all of the gears work fine and the clutch works well when starting off and between gears. However, when I pull the clutch lever, the bike still stays in gear. This happens with all of the gears. I have adjusted the cable tension but had no luck; extreme tension on the clutch cable won't even loosen the rear wheel to make it spin; it's still partially engaged (although not as bad as when the cable has less tension). There is not a dramatic difference at all when I adjust the clutch cable. There is a big difference on the lever itself (can be very loose or very firm) but no major changes in the rear wheel, it still seems locked into gear. How do I make it to where the rear wheel is free when I depress the clutch? (Again, I tried tightening the cable but it didn't help it). Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!! trevbul1
Sorry, I am not an expert but personally I would take the cover off and take a look at the clutch itself. I am assuming the cable is in good condition. On the age of the bike, the edges of the clutch plates / clutch basket could be burred (have worn to create interference) or it could even be as simple as needing to change the oil; I once (years ago) had a 'crosser where the clutch performance was affected by it having too much oil in the crankcase. Sometimes just taking the clutch apart and putting it back together again cures this kind of problem. As I said, I am no expert. Hope you get it sorted, best wishes. 0007
I presume you are trying to push the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in? Bikes just don't do that, the friction in the clutch won't let you spin it easily If that's what you are doing then you can't really fix it because it is not broken
bambam_n_chunx
If the bike has been parked up for any length of time the plates in the clutch have a habit of sticking together. Sounds to me like this has happened and I`m guessing you have`nt had the cover off and the clutch apart to clean it. I think if you do, it will sort this for you. Good luck
sweersz
Thanks for the assistance! I don't know what I would do without you guys. Yes, the bike had been sitting for years... if only people would just take it for a spin every now and then. I'll be taking the clutch apart and will be seeing what's up, thanks!
