zerorev3rev4
the noise you hear is more likely piston slap ,the one everyone suspects the poor little end for when infact they hardly ever give any trouble, bores start off as standard and with wear people often fit the larger piston best have a specialist check this if you want it right not many engine shops have the required equipment for honing niccosal cylinder plating

Hi, why do you think "top-end/little end"? From my experience if the rattle occurs under load on the gas it will be your bottom end! Top end rattles are more noticable on the run-down and on throttle off. Is there noticable vibration through the bars,do you get a tickling sensation through the jewls while sat on the bike? sharkbait
Picked up my '98 315 yesterday and it's rattling/tapping pretty much all the time (i.e. no difference regardless of throttle). The engine has had new bearings and rings but the piston is the old one - work was carried out by a Honda engineer apparantly. It's currently running on standard unleaded so I'll get some premium to try and I'm sure the silencer needs repacking (not sure if this can make a difference though). Anything else I need to look at before getting the carb off and looking at the jets?
