pjlman
I need some help please. I have a 2011 290 factory and the engine squeals!! It came to light on Sundays trial i did 24 sections no problem then i could rev the engine but when it comes down off the revs it squeals badly, I thought it was the barrel starting to nip up but it still revs cleanly. I think its coming from the water pump and only happens when it's hot with the fan cutting in and out. The water pump has an alloy spacer to increase the volume. Could it be the impeller spinning on the shaft ??? Any ideas??? Cheers
outlaw dave
It's likely the alloy after market impeller rubbing on the case - you can fix by either putting the stock one back on or taking some metal from the alloy unit with a lathe or grinder. pjlman
Thanks for the info, I'll take the water pump cover off and see if there's any rub marks on it. Cheers
svleigh
It could be the main bearings on their way out
pindie
I know this sounds obvious but you are running the right amount of oil in your fuel?
outlaw dave
Hi PJ - You will probably find that the alloy impellor has been rubbing on the rough casting inside the waterpump case - We had this happen with an 09 Evo - we machined the rough spot and everything was cool. ( You won't hear the noise with the stock Beta plastic impellor) We have fitted the Costa high volume kits to other bikes without a problem, so it is likely just a casting flaw. nzralphy
Ummm just a thought ..... before modifying the bike ..... have you talked to the importer..... he may/will have a free fix for you!
outlaw dave
Hi PJ - Did you find the problem? - please tell.
pjlman
HI Dave Removed the water pump housing and sure enough there was a small curved mark around the perimeter where the impeller has touched. There is a little movement in the the impeller where it moves up to the circlip. I have fitted a small shim to keep the impeller towards the engine and removed the rough casting inside the pump housing as suggested. I am going out on it at the weekend and hopefully thats it sorted. Thanks Paul
