raffles
I use Putoline Light Gear Oil in my 2004 290. It's described as a synthetic fortified 2 stroke gearbox oil SAE 75W. You should be able to pick some up for around

copemech
ATF works , yet is thin and can make the clutch a bit on/off as compared to the thicker gear oils or just basic 10-40 motor oil. Seems thicker the oil, the more likely the clutck plates sticking after sitting, never trust them or you may buy the farm!
charliechitlins
I only ever used motor oil in mine and never had a problem. It was cheap enough that I felt fine about changing it every couple rides. Although I'm a little out of it...there used to be stories of clutch plates becoming un-bonded and it was almost invariably when running ATF,
dazzagreener
Cool thanks for all your advice. I did have ipone 75w gear oil in last. This worked fine and I really liked the action of the clutch My local bike dealer had some putoline light gear oil which also is a 75w so I'm hoping I will get the same sort of response as the ipone oil Fingers crossed
samy
I'm running Motorex in mine. The clutch does stick for 10 seconds or so if the bike sits unused for 2+ weeks. I change the oil every 2 trials or 3-4 weeks. Cheers
